Yoshimura Japan confirms that the motorcycle tuning company will switch from the Japanese Superbike Championship to race in select rounds of the 2010 World Superbike Championship.
Yoshimura has been involved in racing for over 50 years in Japan and runs Suzuki’s factory effort in the Japanese Superbike Championship and Endurance races. Yoshimura states that the best way to develop parts for the streetbikes is to continue growing in motorcycle racing. What better way to do this than move to World Superbikes and compete at the world level. Competition at the world level makes siginificant strides in product development. This will help Yoshimura increase their already excellent product range.
Yoshimura Suzuki has had incredible success in the United States and Japan. Most notably Mat Mladin and Ben Spies have won tons of races and helped the US Yoshimura Mladin win his seventh and final AMA Superbike title for Yoshimura Suzuki in 2009. The Japan Yoshimura team won this year’s Suzuka 8 Hours Endurance race and finished a close second in the Japanese Superbike Championship with Daisaku Sakai.
Alstare is currently Suzuki’s top WSBK team, but Yoshimura’s reputation and close links to the factory is sure to stir the competition up for the 2010 World Superbike season. It is unknown at this time if the switch will change the US racing operation.
