What's with all the comparisons, you buy what takes your fancy. I happen to own a BMW for several reasons none of which include outright performance but all to do with comfort & elegance.

Hey, what about the Buells? I have the Uly/XB12Scg/AND the XB12R, talk about twistys...I also have the '08 CBR1000RR....spaceship. whatever floats it people!!but alas, 2009 R1200RT is coming to the garage, decent discounts from BMW. Total bike character is what gets me going...the inline 4's just don't do it for me, which is why I didn't want the K12GT bike they had in the showroom...EH, I wish these people that posted this stuff owned one of everything! Hey did I mention the Ducati's? I traded in the 749 AND the 999...now there is some character!!! See you out there

As a police motorcyclist I have experience of the Honda ST1100, ST1300, the BMW 1150RT and the Yamaha FJR1300.
Honda ST1100 awful brakes unless you go for the ABS model.
The ST1300 felt very heavy and I was'nt very confident at speed in excess of 140km/h (90ish MPH).
The FJR which we use at present is very comfortable and plenty of power. But while it likes to go in a straight line, it under steers around corners unless you wind off the power.
Needs a sixth gear for cruising which is what we do most of the time.
Try riding it around a city in the summer!
The heat off the engine will fry your upper legs.
And the screen going down everytime you switch off drives me mad!

At home have the BMW R11150RT. Great bike except for a slight surge. The 1200 nicer to ride but hated the looks. The 2010 model has stirred my interest with the new fairing and especially the clocks which look like a proper motorcycle again.

Nothing the Japanese make at present make me want to go in that direction but the Moto Guzzi's, Norge and Stilvio will need another look before I change.

On twisties I have no problem keeping up with an FJR on the RT.
The GS will leave them both for dead anytime!

Roll on the summer.

I'm 51, own a Road King and will be purchasing a 2010 RT as soon as discounts are offered. (I'll be keeping the HD becuase I'd rather ride that to a biker bar than the BMW but I'd rather ride the BMW on long trips). I don't understand the bashing JE, don't we all have one common interest, the love of two wheels!!

Don't know about you, but having a bike that feels stable in corners (telelever and paralever suspension) feels pretty good to me. I have ridden busa's, GSXr's, and R1's. The only bike that feels comparable to a BMW on a corner is the GSXr and that's because it's lower to the ground. But damn, that brake dive can be a killer.
