The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team has confirmed to Crash.net that it will allow James Toseland to make an early R1 debut, by taking part in the Portimao World Superbike test.
The post-race test takes place after the WSBK season finale is held at the Portuguese track on October 23-25 – the same weekend that Toseland will be riding in the Malaysian Grand Prix.
With the 2009 MotoGP season not concluding until November 8, fellow WSBK returnee Chris Vermeulen had his request to test at Portimao turned down by Suzuki.
However, since Toseland is remaining part of the Yamaha ‘family’, Tech 3 has agreed to let the former double WSBK champion get his first taste of R1 machinery before his final MotoGP ride for the French team at Valencia.
After two years in MotoGP with Tech 3, Toseland will swap places with Ben Spies for 2010.
Spies will also get an early taste of his 2010 machinery, albeit in more competitive circumstances, having secured a wild-card ride for the Valencia finale.
