SV650 Project Bike: Installed New Parts and Added an Extra 30 HP, Sort of

Suzuki SV650 S ASV Levers Let’s start this phase of project off by the installation of the new unbreakable ASV brake and clutch levers from SportBikeShop.  First glance when opening the box is the how great they look.  They really are trick parts and add a little extra to your SV styling.  The removal of the old levers was very easy and straight forward.  Right away you can feel the weight difference between the old stock levers and the new ASV lighter levers.

The installation of the new ASV levers was easy as can be and quick.  After installing both brake and clutch levers I thought it would be a good idea to sit on the bike and see how they feel.  To get a real feel for the levers I tried to start the bike.  No go.  The damn thing wouldn’t start and All I did was install new levers.  What the heck?  Ok, I resulted to looking at the instructions and in the box and found a neutral cut out switch which goes inside the handle.  After taking the clutch off installing the cut out switch WAAABAAA.  The Sv started right up and the levers felt great.  I adjusted them to my liking and went on the step 2 of the project.

Step 2 Installing the Quick Throw Throttle – This  has to be one of the best modifications I have done to the SV to date.  For $8 from eBay how could you not SV650 ASV Leverswant to install this part?  After following the previous article on the installation of the quick throw throttle. As stated in the article it was very easy as well and I thought since I had the old throttle off with the stock grip I replaced the grips with a set of Renthals I received earlier.  After making a couple of cuts in the Yamaha Thottle tube to ensure the throttle won’t stick it was ready to go back together.  I put the new throttle tube on and made sure it felt ok.  I fired up the engine once again and gave it a try.  The RPM’s jump a lot quicker than before.  I took the SV for a test ride to make sure everything was ok and the throttle felt amazing.  What a difference a new throttle tube makes.  It almost feels like the bike has an extra 30 HP due to the faster action throttle.  I give this mod two thumbs and highly recommend it.

To test all the new gear I have one final track day of the year.  I will give a full report on the trackday and the parts.  Stay Tuned.
